WHAT IS A DOOR?
A "Door" is a program run by the BBS. Online games and voting
booths are examples of separate programs called up by the BBS. These
are called "doors" because the BBS functions as a doorway to give you
access to these other programs. Many doors accept information from the
BBS, such as your name, the amount of time remaining, etc. Others do
not.
Because setting up a door is complicated, it is also prone to
the dreaded SSE (Stupid Sysop Error). When trying to run a door, you are
more likely to encounter an error than at any other time on the BBS. If
you select a door and nothing happens for one or two minutes, you can
safely assume the system has encountered an error. Hang up and call
back, and explain what happened in as much detail as possible in a
message to the Sysop. I'll do my best to correct the error as quickly
as possible, and you'll earn my undying gratitude.
Sometimes the system does not recycle as it should, and in that
case, the system simply remains offline until I discover and fix it.
CAN I HELP REGISTER DOORS?
Most doors, including games, are shareware programs that must be
registered (paid for) after a reasonable evaluation period, or must be
removed from the BBS. This BBS totally supports the shareware concept,
so any unregistered games will be removed after the evaluation period is
complete. You can help to keep your favorite game online by paying all
or part of the registration fee, which is $10 to $20 for most games.
For more information, leave a message to me, the system
operator, and let me know which door you're interested in helping to
register. I'll let you know the particulars. And thanks for your
interest.
